The popular interactive site was developed in 1997 by Robin Johnson, Creative Director, and Peter Bethke, Technical Director, and debuted online in 1998. The number of readers has more than tripled in the last year and it is projected that the site will have had 200,000 visitors by year's end with over 18,000 visitors per month. To put these numbers into perspective, consider that population estimates for Charlottesville/Albemarle are 32,000 children under age 18 with close to 28,000 parents and 122,000 total residents of all ages. The Work of CvilleKid.com to be Carried on by AlbemarleKids

May 2001

Due to the recent decision of Sabra Timmins of Oakley Imaging to discontinue her web site, CvilleKid.com (see Press Release of Oakley Imaging, Apr 9, 2001 posted at www.CvilleKid.com), an agreement between Timmins and AlbemarleKids.com has been reached to carry on the work of Timmins through the acquisition of the CvilleKid.com site by AlbemarleKids.com.

Having started up within a couple of months of AlbemarleKids.com early in 1999, the CvilleKid web site has since served the Charlottesville region and especially newcomers to the area with charming outing write ups on everything from Charlottesville's parks to what to expect in a visit to the Children's Health Museum at the UVA Medical Center. "The site (CvilleKid.com) began out of my frustration as a parent about the lack of one good source for information about the wonderful programs and events for children in Charlottesville. Now that this information is out there (and now that I am a mother of two), it seems like a good time to stop", says Timmons. Click here for the full press release.

AlbemarleKids Care Art Exhibit:
"The New Hope Millennium Project"
"Celebrating New Beginnings and New Life"

April 2000

Former NICU mom looking to make a difference for families of critically ill children at the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the UVA Children's Medical Center with The New Hope Millennium Project of AlbemarleKids.

Inspired by her own experiences as the mother of an infant born prematurely and requiring over 3 months hospitalization, Robin has created the New Hope Millennium Project. She hopes the project will give new hope to NICU families through the special messages sent from local children through their artwork. The project will help to raise money for rocking chairs and books for the NICU through the financial donations given by family, friends, and businesses sponsoring the kids' artworks. At her website, www.AlbemarleKids.com families will be able to visit an online Museum and view the drawings that the children have created to express their love and hope for the families in the NICU. The artwork will also be displayed as a paper quilt at various locations throughout the Children's Medical Center. Click here for the full press release.

Just In Time for Summer...

April, 1998

AlbemarleKids.com is an extensive project of Spring Hollow Publishing, Inc.. The site is designed to be the ultimate resource for families in our community and we are committed to help our children in need by donating 10% of our proceeds to local children's charity organizations. We want to make every aspect of a busy parent's life easier, and enrich the lives of our children, by encouraging the precious gift of time in activities that will build healthy, happy memories. A survey taken of 7th graders in both Charlottesville and Albemarle County by the Girls and Boys Club revealed that an estimated 83% of families in Albemarle County alone have computers at home. As you know that number is increasing rapidly. According to census records, we expect to have an estimated 30,000 children in both our city and county by the year 2000. Clearly, our family market here in Albemarle/Charlottesville is both technically advanced and growing! We hope you'll enjoy using the site. Click here for the full press release.
